love marilyn monroe 4 showing us that being her is something she turned on and off
[Image text.
“"I’ll never forget the day Marilyn and I were walking around New York City, just having a stroll on a nice day. She loved New York because no one bothered her there like they did in Hollywood, she could put on her plain-jane clothes and no one would notice her. She loved that.
So as we we’re walking down Broadway, she turns to me and says ‘Do you want to see me become her?’
I didn’t know what she meant but I just said 'Yes’- and then I saw it.
I don’t know how to explain what she did because it was so very subtle, but she turned something on within herself that was almost like magic. And suddenly cars were slowing and people were turning their heads and stopping to stare. They were recognizing that this was Marilyn Monroe as if she pulled off a mask or something, even though a second ago nobody noticed her.”

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION
↳ day one: favourite celebrity → RACHEL WEISZI just think that things get easier as you get older and wiser and more experienced. You get more confident about who you are as you get older. I find that really comforting.

every artist who has ever attempted to satirize masculinity i am so sorry
you could name a movie Portrait of a delusional abuser ruining his own life in pursuit of a fictional standard of manhood and 89% of its fanbase would still be like “Fuck yeah man it was so cool when Shit Cumdick gave that badass speech about how pushing everyone away and never letting yourself feel emotions is actually a good idea for your life. fuckin dope flick”
i’ve been trying to think of a comment for this since i woke up this morning and it had blown up but basically what i have to say is this.
-yes gone girl is the version of this for women and there are probably several others, i almost feel irresponsible for discussing toxic masculinity without the caveat that white women are often fooled by the veil of girl power thrown over the same toxic scorched-earth gender essentialism. incidentally r*dfems this post is not for you
-this post specifically is less about “this character makes morally terrible decisions so you shouldn’t idolize them” (which is true) and is more about how a lot of these characters are really obviously losers. walter white isn’t cool, like at all. the whole point is that he’s trying to imitate a hollywood archetype but can’t because he’s a real person, and somehow the part where it’s a story about a chemistry teacher’s downward spiral goes over their head like in the meme, and they just see “badass speech about how i am the danger.” it makes me genuinely sad that for every piece of brilliant satire or even just writing with an unreliable narrator there’s more people that don’t get it than do

sometimes I think about how al capone donated to charity in an attempt to improve his image
this is how I see ‘philanthropic’ billionaires today
This is very unfair to Al Capone, who donated a much higher percentage of his income than any billionaire ever and was reputedly a good tipper.
you know what, you technically aren’t wrong

remember that the real justice system is the grassroots activists, rioters, protesters, fighters- the people who literally bled at the hands of the system last summer. this fight is ceaseless. first chauvin, then the system.

Hello @staff I would like to make a formal complaint that my tumblr ads are no longer funny and nonsensical, but annoyingly frequent and boring. I demand you bring back the frog with a knife. I want to pour vinegar on bread.
